Thoughts on Structuring an Outreach Service?

Hi Guys,

Daniel and I were having a brief chat last night, and he was running by his idea of what an Outreach service will look like. It should incorporate the following elements:

1. A time of simple and honest worship (like last night; no fanfare there, just a guitar, the heart, and God is sufficient);
2. A time of laying hands on each other for the Spirit's refreshing;
3. A time of teaching/preaching;
4. A time of sharing with each other and praying for each other's needs;
5. Celebrating the Eucharist ("Communion", for us low-church people, haha);
6. A Break! Haha.

Well, it's a matter of arranging these elements together, as well as of time allocation to each element. I have the following suggestion for the Outreach to consider; we could do a Service in this order:

1. Worship + Laying on of Hands for the Spirit's Refreshing (45 Mins)
2. Toilet Break! (15 mins)
3. A time of preaching (30 Mins)
4. Break for Lunch! (30 Mins)
5. Return for Q&A with Teacher/Preacher (30 Mins)
6. Break up into pairs/trios/etc. for sharing and prayer (30 Mins)
7. Celebration of the Eucharist (15 Mins)

I have only allotted 30 minutes to the Speaker because I am assuming that preaching would be the order of the day. I don't see why any preacher should have to take more than 30 minutes to get his point across succinctly (sorry Korean preachers, yes, you suck), especially since he has another half an hour of Q&A.

CE classes will be another matter, since they won't be taking place on the same day as a service (which will most probably be a Saturday or a Sunday), but rather on nights.

What do you guys think?

Chris
