Hi everyone, 16He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. 17The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: 20Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him, 21and he began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." 22All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. "Isn't this Joseph's son?" they asked.
This definition of anointing--"the Divine enablement for us to accomplish God’s purposes on earth"--is not a bad definition: it's been used quite often in charismatic circles. I think, however, RHB's definition might be even better. He gives 2 definitions to the anointing:
1) the manifest presence of God;
2) the divine tools to get the job done.
You'd notice number 2 is very similar to the definition above. Don't leave out number 1 from your definition though. It's been called different things--the "glory", the "cloud", etc. That doesn't really matter ('cos even terms like "glory" are used in various ways in the Bible itself). Just so long we know what it is can already. =)
And partly RHB's definition is in a way better, in my humble opinion, because it shows that no. 1 and no. 2 are not meant to be separated, and also partly because RHB's ministry, in comparison to Brownsville, Toronto, and other charismatic movements, is honestly one of the most Biblical and balanced. So it's something we can benefit from the guy.
Thanks all and continue to grow in the Lord!

18"The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to release the oppressed,
19to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."[a]
